I had a picture of the kingdom of heaven while waiting for the dentist after having my teeth cleaned.
For the kingdom of heaven is as a dentist travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his recommendations on oral hygiene. And unto one he gave a Sonicare, to another floss, and to another a normal toothbrush; to every man according to his carbohydrate consumption; and straightway took his journey.
Then he that had received the Sonicare went and brushed his teeth, and had no cavities. And likewise he that had received floss, flossed, and had healthy gums. But he that had received a simple toothbrush went and digged in the earth, and hid his toothbrush.
After a long time the dentist of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. And so he that had received a Sonicare came and revealed his spotless teeth, saying, Dentist, thou deliveredst unto me a Sonicare: behold, I have faithfully followed your dental recommendations. The vaguely pleasant smelling dentist bent over and inspected his mouth and said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few teeth, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy success. He also that had received floss came and said, Dentist, thou deliveredst unto me minty floss: behold, I have gained two cavities yet my gums are impeccable. His dentist said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy success.
Then he which had received the plain toothbrush came and said, Dentist, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, scraping plaque where thou hast not eaten, and polishing where thou hast not imbibed: and I was afraid, and went and hid thy toothbrush in the earth: lo, there I am in need of a root canal. His dentist answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I scrape plaque where I have not eaten, and polish where I have not imbibed: thou oughtest therefore to have put the toothbrush to the denticles, and then at my coming I should have inspected your mouth and found it acceptable. Take therefore the toothbrush from him, and give it unto him which hath the Sonicare. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the cavatied servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
thankfully today I had a Sonicare and was given a toothbrush, too.
